When I got a new, high profile job, it was one of the best moments of my life. It was everything that I had ever wanted in a job. It was a senior position with a lot of responsibility in an industry I loved. I was able to lead a good life since it paid me enough. Nothing could have topped that feeling I had at that moment after having landed such a great position. I was soon to find out, however, that I was wrong. Pretty soon, I was given a business credit card, and not too long after that, I realized what a boon this was.
In order to facilitate reimbursements, the company had a policy of issuing business credit cards to senior executives. The reimbursements and claims process is enough to drive anybody mad in any large organization, as any accounting professional will tell you. Occasionally, some bills and invoices that cannot be replaced go missing. The documentation, at other times, is not proper. It is often impossible to keep track of all the bills attributed to petty cash. So, in order to simplify the entire process, our company issued business credit cards to all senior executives. The business credit card solution was an absolutely brilliant one.
We no longer needed to ask for the large amounts of cash that was required to carry with us on local and overseas trips. We found that we could use the business credit card on nearly everything. The business credit card would pay for airfares, hotel rooms, and lunches. The business credit card could be used to pay for smaller purchases. Even online business related expenses could be paid for by the business credit card. All we had to do was hand over the monthly statement to the company accountants in order to claim the reimbursements, and they would pay, in full, all of the business related expenses. Like any shrewd executive will tell you, no money ever went out of our own pockets, but there were other advantages that we could all enjoy from our business credit cards.
I could make use of all the frequent flyer miles I gathered on business trips since the business credit card was issued to me in my name. I could use these in order to receive tickets for my family as well. It was condoned since it did not translate into any loss of money on behalf of my company. I similarly accrued the bonus points on my business credit card and could claim several redeemable gifts for myself including lunches and discount coupons. I also received some gadgets, gizmos, and a fancy fountain pen in this way. These freebies that the credit card company gave me were all mine to keep. These are the little things that gave me a constant source of power and contentment, these perks of a business credit card.
